What items can I store in a climate-controlled unit?
Weather sensitive items such as artwork, photos, furniture, wine, antiques, household appliances, and other items that may be negatively impacted by intense temperatures and humidity.
Am I required to store long-term?
We provide flexible month-to-month lease options. Store with us short or long-term.
How long can I reserve a unit for?
We are happy to offer reservations free of charge until we run out of that unit size. We will then contact you to see if you would like to rent the unit starting that day or if you would like us to release the unit.
How do I pay my storage bill?
Pay your storage bill online or over the phone using a debit or credit card. You can sign up for autopay online or over the phone.
Is insurance required on my unit?
It’s always best practice when renting any storage unit and we do require that your items be insured. You can add Tenant Insurance to your unit during the rental process or provide your private policy information.
When is rent due?
Rent is due on the 1st of every month.
What items am I not allowed to store?
Perishables, plants, animals, stolen or illegal goods, flammable or hazardous items, combustible items, or liquids.
How do I rent a unit?
You can easily rent a storage unit online, or one of our friendly Storage Professionals are happy to assist you with the rental process over the phone.
How are move outs handled?
You do not need to provide advance notice, just call us when you move out. Please remember, if you are using the unit on the first day of the month, then rent is due for the entire month. We do not prorate rent back to you.
Will I need my own lock?
Yes, you will need to provide your own disc style lock, which are available for sale at the facility. Call to purchase one or use one you already have.
Is there garbage disposal onsite?
To keep your rent as low as possible, we do not provide trash removal. Everything that comes into the facility with you, needs to go out with you.
Are carts and dollies provided?
Yes! We have a variety of carts and dollies for you to use at every access point to make the moving process as easy as possible.
How do I choose the right storage unit size?
Choosing the right storage unit depends on what you plan to store. Smaller units work well for boxes and seasonal items, while larger units can hold furniture or the contents of an entire home. You can view our full storage size guide here.

Midwest Indoor Storage operates climate-controlled self storage facilities throughout Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, including Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Faribault, Winona, Mason City (IA), Janesville (WI), New Ulm and Eyota. Locations
Do I need a climate-controlled storage unit?
Climate-controlled storage units help protect furniture, electronics, documents, and other valuables from extreme temperature changes and humidity. They are ideal for long-term storage or items that could be damaged by heat, cold, or moisture.
What are your storage access hours?
All Midwest Indoor Storage locations are open from 5 AM to 10:30 PM for storage access.
